Heard but not seen

ADR stands for Automatic Dialog Replacement, a cinematographic post-production process that consists of re-recording a film’s dialogues in specially designed studios (5.1) to replace those recorded during filming. It’s an exercise that I particularly enjoy, because it’s recorded on tape.

For each recording, ten or so actors, often the same ones, come together on the set. It’s like a troupe that has to adapt to a script, an era and the actors around them. You also have to master lip synch perfectly, enjoy improvisation and be able to project your voice properly, just like in theatre.

In “Robin Hood”, I die several times, in “Mission Impossible”, I try to stop Tom Cruise after a fall on his motorbike, while in “The Last Duel”, I howl to the glory of my master, while in the “Poldark” series, I stop a revolutionary…
